Growing Demand for Procons’ Lightweight Purlins

procons1

At Procons’ fully automated roll-forming line, custom-sized lightweight purlins and thermos purlins are manufactured from steel. The roll-forming technology allows for precise production of demanding and asymmetrical cross-sectional shapes, holes, and angled ends. For over a year now, Procons has also been producing lightweight purlins with Z-, U-, C-, and Sigma-profiles as a standard product for the construction industry.

When the company launched the production line in 2019, expectations were high. Now, almost 2.5 years later, Procons’ CEO, Klas West, can let out a sigh of relief – the market has recognized the value of the products, and demand is increasing both in Finland and the rest of the Nordics. Among the customers are several well-known Nordic companies in the industrial and steel construction sectors, including Sweden's Sandvik and Finland's Nordec.

“Today, several renowned companies regularly place orders with us. The steel profiles are used for halls and large, fully automated high-storage facilities across Europe. We also manufacture fastening components for these structures.”

Lightweight Purlins Tailored to the Customer’s Needs

Thanks to the fully automated production line, manufacturing is efficient, and delivery times are short. The delivery reliability of the beam line is close to 100 %.

Another advantage is that the purlins are largely prefabricated. The machine automatically reads the customer’s design and produces the purlins according to the specified dimensions and requirements. Asymmetrical cutouts, bolt holes, and end processing are done directly, eliminating the need for further processing.

“Typically, designers must consider what the manufacturer is capable of producing. What sets us apart from competitors is our ability to produce exactly what the customer wants, including more complex and customized profiles.”

Products are delivered labeled according to instructions and ready for assembly, which simplifies the customer’s inventory management and streamlines the construction process.

“Customers appreciate the labeling, which makes it easy to find the right parts at the construction site. When the lightweight purlins arrive pre-labeled, correctly shaped, and with pre-punched holes, assembly becomes straightforward and quick.”

Lightweight purlins are typically made from galvanized steel, but stainless steel can be used if needed. A new addition to the product range is thermo-beams, which are used to break thermal bridges in halls and other buildings with steel frame systems.

Increasing Demand Requires Greater Production Capacity

Procons is growing rapidly and the company continuously makes significant investments in production capacity to meet demand. Slowing down the pace of investment is not an option – quite the opposite, says West.

“We have several major investments underway this year. To increase the capacity for special thin sheet profiles, we will be expanding with a new roll-forming line, expected to be completed this fall. In the coming weeks, we’ll also decide on an investment for the line that will further enhance the efficiency of thermos purlin production.”
