Procons Invests in Automation – Robots Make Production Cost-Effective and Versatile
The idea began to take shape during a large project where Procons produced a substantial number of fastening components. Managing and handling the volume required significant manpower, and before delivery, a partner had to perform bending tasks. Procons' CEO, Klas West, saw an opportunity to increase cost-efficiency by complementing their punching machine with a robot capable of operating by itself. At the same time, the decision was made to invest in a bending cell.
“I always said I’d never buy a press brake, but the fact is, it creates synergies with the beam line. Steel structures, which are among our main products, often require fastening components, so the manufacturing methods complement each other well.”
The investment includes two robotic cells: one integrated with the Pivatec punching machine and another for bending the punched parts. The investment, worth approximately €250,000, has proven to be a logical and successful step for Procons.
“It’s a cost-effective and versatile production method that also makes us more competitive. Recently, we secured a major project in the Netherlands involving around 80 tons of steel to be punched and bent, and more projects are on the horizon.”
Robotics Create Benefits for Customers
The robots were installed in late summer, and since September, they have been running daily for 3–4 hours at a time, depending on the product. West is more than satisfied with the results.
“The production capacity increase is significant, and the process is efficient. The punched products are automatically stacked, ready to be transferred to the bending cell, which immediately picks them up and continues the process.”
Procons’ customers also benefit from this investment. Automated production provides a more stable manufacturing process and consistent quality.
“Compared to before, we can now offer complete deliveries where our customers receive everything from one place,” West highlights.
The robot stacks the punched parts, which are then transferred to the bending cell for further processing.
Next Year’s Investment Plans Are Already in Motion
The demand for thin sheet metal has also increased, prompting plans to invest in a new production line to expand capacity. These investments and the company’s capacity increases align with the overall strategy of Procons.
“We are making bold investments at a fast pace, enabling us to compete for large projects. Our advantages as a smaller player in the market are low fixed costs, easy accessibility, and a quick and efficient decision-making process. Cost-efficiency and adapting to customer needs drive our company’s development.”
