Meeting the Growing Demand for Punching Services

In early December 2022, a new punching line was launched at Procons’ facility in Malax. For large volumes, the new punching line from Pivatic is technologically superior, while also minimizing material waste. The punching line is used to produce fastening components for various steel structures, among other things.

The line punches components directly from steel coils. Since no plate changes are needed, efficiency increases significantly for high-volume production, and delivery times are reduced. The new punching line is twice the size of the previous one, capable of handling steel sheets up to 1250 mm wide and 3.5 mm thick.

As a business leader, CEO Klas West is accustomed to identifying customer needs, adapting operations accordingly, and making swift decisions.

"The opportunity to make this investment arose relatively spontaneously, and we decided to go for it. We have close ties with the manufacturer, Pivatic, and have been very satisfied with our previous collaboration."

The first Pivatic line was originally purchased to add flexibility to beam production, such as creating custom hole patterns in beams. However, it ended up being primarily used for punching tasks. With a significant portion of the punching now being shifted to the new line, more capacity is freed up for the beam line.

"You can sometimes stumble into new markets almost by chance. This part of our business is growing tremendously," says Klas. "We’re now fully booked with punching work, so you could say we’ve successfully established ourselves in the market."

Global Challenges Do Not Shake the CEO’s Optimism

The new investment reflects Klas’ strong confidence in the future. Despite recent global material shortages in the industry, he remains optimistic.

"The second and third quarters were challenging, but the situation has now eased. Material availability has stabilized, even though the global situation remains uncertain. Still, I’m optimistic about the future. Some customer segments may disappear, but others will emerge. I believe in the future and am committed to pushing forward."

In January 2023, a new 200-ton press line will also be commissioned. It will be integrated with the roll-forming line, further expanding capacity. Despite the rapidly growing machinery lineup, there is still plenty of room for future development.

"We’ve expanded our production space by approximately 1000 square meters, so we’re set for now. There’s room for a few more machines here, but we’re taking it one step at a time. Right now, the focus is on getting our latest investments fully operational before planning our next move."
